London – the capital of the United Kingdom, a mighty city with centuries of tradition that has seen and experienced a lot. Nowadays, it is a very popular place to visit and it would seem that the only language people speak there is English, but the huge number of tourists and immigrants of many nationalities means that a multitude of dialects can be heard, such as Spanish, Italian, Russian, German, Arabic, Chinese and Polish.
London has many attractions worth visiting. The most interesting ones certainly include: The London Eye, the former wax figure museum Madame Tussauds, Oxford Street-a street lined with shops alone, some of the largest museums: natural history, science, and the British Museum, The Globe-a Shakespearean theatre right on the Thames, and the Sherlock Holmes Museum on the famous Baker Street. You will undoubtedly have an unforgettable experience walking through places such as The Mall, which is the street leading to Buckingham Palace itself, the Queen’s residence, Piccadilly Circus, a square and crossroads in the heart of the West End, London’s theatre district, most recognisable by its large advertising hoardings, Trafalgar Square, or crossing the Thames on various famous bridges, such as Tower Bridge or Millennium Bridge.
Worthy of special mention is the Tower of London- a former prison, fortress, palace and even a zoo. It is guarded by guards called Yeomen Warders, but they are colloquially referred to as ‘beefeaters’, which translates from English to Polish as ‘beef eaters’. The Tower is home to ravens, of which there is a legend that the British Empire will last as long as they live there.
London is a place worth seeing as there is something for everyone. I heartily recommend a visit to this city.
